Ingoldmells Academy

Music

The intention of our music curriculum is to help children to be more musical and develop a life-long love of music.  We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that children need in order to become confident performers, composers and listeners.  Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate music of all traditions and communities.

Children will also develop the musical skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music, and listening and responding to music.  Children then have the opportunity to compose music for a variety of purposes.  As a child moves through our school, their musical knowledge and understanding will deepen building on the foundations laid in the previous years.

Guidance and resources have been used from Kapow to support planning and delivery of music.  Children take part in a weekly singing assembly where they are encouraged to sing in groups, perform in rounds and harmonies.  In Year 3/4 children get the opportunity to play a musical instrument with tuition provided by the Music Service and in year 5/6 they have a term of musical theatre provision.
